This is Whitney’s first year as a director for Up With Kids and she is beyond excited to begin this journey.
Whitney grew up in Pleasant View, Utah where she began dancing when she was 5 years old and excelled in tap, jazz, and ballet. When she was 12 years old she saw her brother perform in the musical Pirates of Penzance and immediately knew that she wanted to be up there with him. She performed in various plays and musicals throughout junior high and high school. She also participated in workshops and performed multiple times at Disneyland. She went on to study musical theater at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs. During a production of “Beauty and the Beast” she had the opportunity to costume the Beast played by Chris Metz and they fell in love.
Whitney and Chris married and moved to Logan and started their family. Having a partner who shares her passion for the arts is truly incredible to her. She has three beautiful children at home who are all Disney fanatics and can often be found singing and dancing to Disney songs.
Whitney believes that the confidence she gained from her theater experience prepared her for many other roles in life. She has had many years of experience working with children, including providing care out of her home for various ages of children and working at the local gym daycare.
Whitney truly believes that theater can have a profound impact in children’s lives. Walt Disney said “Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children.” Up With Kids is a wonderful place for children to share their talents and to help them find confidence and great self esteem through the performing arts.
